CyrusOne, LLC is an enterprise colocation services provider dedicated to safeguarding and increasing the availability and efficiency of mission-critical business applications and data for over 500 customers. CyrusOne has 10 Texas-based data centers. Of these 10 data centers, 3 were opened in 2012 in San Antonio, Austin, and Carrollton. The Carrollton data center itself is a 700,000 square foot high density facility. For this particular project, CyrusOne had recently completed Phase One of a 1 million square foot facility in Chandler, Arizona, which is just outside of Phoenix. As a carrier-neutral data center provider, CyrusOne requires carriers to build their fiber into CyrusOne’s newly constructed facilities. Global Communication Networks, Inc. was asked to source, negotiate and Project Manage these carrier build-outs for CyrusOne. These projects were complex in scope as they required long distance fiber and conduit builds, as well as permitting and boring under major highways and railroad crossings. In addition to the carrier builds, CyrusOne also needed a scalable, reliable, protected, cost-effective statewide internet exchange to allow their clients to easily move mission-critical data across CyrusOne-owned data centers, carrier hotels, and, in some cases, client offices.
Through a proprietary RFP and vetting process, GCN was able to deliver the best of breed carriers for CyrusOne’s unique requirements. GCN looked at every individual need, from Dark Fiber, Colocation, Lit Carrier Services (10Gig IP Transit, MPLS, Private Lines and more), and Interconnectivity, and then rolled it all into a single solution to fit CyrusOne’s individual business needs for performance, scalability, budget, and vision. The end result is a culmination of GCN’s large carrier portfolio developed from nearly two decades as an Independent Agent. This solution also depended heavily upon GCN’s strategic negotiations, which ensured that the individual projects turned out as a win for CyrusOne and the chosen carrier.
CyrusOne created a unique niche offering for their clients: statewide interconnectivity for end customers between data center environments, or for connectivity to additional carriers a particular client prefers to use. They also expanded the reach of the carriers that are limited to the larger carrier hotels as well as the on-net IP Transit providers to each CyrusOne data center. It was truly a Win-Win-Win: one that GCN fully managed from start to finish. GCN’s services during this complex project included: off-loading of carrier management, Service Order Fulfillment and Pricing negotiations, Master Service Agreement negotiation, and Project Management of Carrier Implementations in over seven locations, in addition to ongoing Account Management. GCN is uniquely positioned for projects of this scope, having extensive experience with fiber builds, colocation, and inter-connectivity.
